Nigeria: Three Kwara students are sentenced to prison for rape

Three students were found guilty on Monday by Kwara State High Court Justice Adenike Akinpelu of conspiring to gang rape one of their cousins.

They were found guilty of raping the victim (name withheld) in the Adangba area of the state’s Ilorin East Local Government Area and two counts of criminal conspiracy.

Omotosho Yahaya, a 23-year-old cousin of the victim, Mustapha Ahmed, a 23-year-old, and Mustapha Ridwan, a 22-year-old, are all students at a state-based tertiary institution.

The main respondent (Yahaya) was said to have welcomed his two companions to go along with him in the demonstration while with the casualty was in the room.

For rape and criminal conspiracy, they received sentences of five and two years, respectively.

The sentences, which incorporate an extra N50,000 fine forced to be paid by every one of the litigants, are to simultaneously run.
