Nigeria: “Plateau State Faces Ominous Threat as Fresh Attack Notice Emerges Amidst Tragic Christmas Eve Massacre Fallout”

In the aftermath of the tragic Christmas eve massacre in Plateau State, where 195 lives were lost and over 3,000 people were injured, the Middle-Belt Forum (MBF) has revealed that insurgents have issued a fresh attack notice to the Pushit community in Mangu LGA. Stanley Kavwam, MBF Deputy National President, disclosed on Arise TV that the terrorists were planning the assault on December 29, citing anonymous letters dropped in Mangu LGA detailing previous attacks.
Despite the severity of the situation, the United Nations, Northern Caucus of the House of Representatives, and Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda are calling for a thorough investigation into the attacks. Bishop Francis Oke of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) urged President Bola Tinubu to deploy federal forces promptly to address the escalating insecurity in Plateau State.
Kavwam highlighted that the military is aware of the attackers’ identity and hideouts, yet security interventions have been lacking, with distress calls ignored. The MBF Deputy National President stressed the need for immediate action, emphasizing that the primary purpose of government is the welfare and security of the people, as outlined in Section 14B of the 1999 Constitution.
As the Plateau socio-cultural group, Bokkos Local Government Like-minds Association, condemned the attacks, the Federal Government, represented by Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris, expressed condolences and pledged to enhance intelligence gathering and crisis response nationwide.
In response to President Tinubu’s directive to intensify security, Minister of Police Affairs Ibrahim Geidam assured that the directive would be implemented thoroughly. However, UN Rights Chief Volker Turk called for a comprehensive investigation into the attacks, emphasizing the urgency of breaking the cycle of impunity fueling recurrent violence.
Various leaders and groups, including the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda, stressed the need for a detailed investigation into the persistent killings in Plateau State. Meanwhile, Bishop Francis Oke urged President Tinubu to end his holidays and address the insecurity promptly, advocating for the submission of a comprehensive bill for state policing to the National Assembly.
Former Presidential Candidate Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim condemned the recurring violence and called for rapid security reforms to permanently address the bloodletting. As the nation grapples with this tragedy, the call for justice, thorough investigations, and proactive security measures resonates across different sectors.
