Nigeria: Ibadan explosion deaths rise to five, soldiers occupy site

The number of fatalities from the explosion in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, has risen to five. The explosion, which occurred in the Adeyi area at Old Bodija, caused extensive damage to 58 houses and left 77 residents with serious injuries. 

The Special Adviser on Security Matters to Governor Seyi Makinde, Fatai Owoseni, provided an update during a press briefing, stating that two additional bodies were recovered. The Oyo State government has deployed soldiers to the scene to secure the area and prevent looting. The police, Department of State Services, and Nigerian Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit are working together to gather information and ensure that those responsible for the incident are brought to justice. The state government has ordered an evacuation of the affected buildings for safety assessments. Governor Makinde has visited the victims and assured them that the perpetrators will face justice. The Nigerian Army has confirmed that the explosion was not a terrorist attack and has been involved in the rescue operations.
