French: French military trainer killed in Iraq: presidency

A French military trainer has been killed in Iraq while working close by Iraqi soldiers, French authorities said Monday.

The warrior, recognized as Nicolas Latourte, “lost his life while achieving his central goal” on Sunday, the workplace of President Emmanuel Macron composed on X, previously known as Twitter.

His passing followed that of another French fighter who was killed a couple of days prior in a road accident in Iraq.

France has around 600 warriors partaking in “Operation Chammal” in Iraq, pointed toward reinforcing the Iraqi public powers and battling against the Islamic State fanatic gathering.

Latourte was “lethally harmed uninvolved of a preparation mission for metropolitan battle”, the French military said in an assertion, without giving further insights concerning the conditions of the passing.

A senior Iraqi military source told AFP on state of namelessness that Latourte had been working with Kurdish powers in northern Iraq, and had passed on from a projectile injury maintained “as he was cleaning his weapon”.
