Russia: While Putin visits two parts of Ukraine, Russia launches an attack on Bakhmut

While Russian forces intensified heavy artillery bombardments and air strikes on the devastated eastern Ukrainian city of Bakhmut, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with his commanders in two regions of Ukraine that Moscow claims to have annexed.

The Kremlin said Putin had gone to a tactical order meeting in Ukraine’s southern Kherson locale and visited a public gatekeeper central command in eastern Luhansk on Monday.

Putin was briefed on the situation in the south’s Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions by senior officers and commanders of the airborne forces and the Dnieper army group.

The Kremlin stated that as a security measure, neither Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov nor Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu traveled with Putin on his trip.

A senior Ukrainian official helper, Mykhailo Podolyak, went on to Twitter to deride Putin’s outing as a “‘extraordinary visit through’ the mass killings creator in the involved and destroyed domains to partake in the wrongdoings of his followers once and for all”.
