Nigeria: Newborn Baby Rescued from Abandonment in Lagos

In a heartwarming incident, a day-old baby boy was found abandoned in a polythene bag on Alhaji Masha Road, in the Surulere area of Lagos State. The baby was discovered by a compassionate social worker who was on her way to a destination when she heard the sound of a crying baby coming from the bag. Acting swiftly, she rescued the baby and rushed him to Randle General Hospital for immediate medical attention.

The baby, who is reported to be in stable condition, is currently receiving treatment at the hospital. The local police, including the Divisional Police Officer and the family support unit, visited the scene of the incident to investigate the matter. Benjamin Hundeyin, the state Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident and assured that the investigation is ongoing.

This is not the first time such a case has been reported in Nigeria.  a day-old baby was found in a carton in Zone ‘B’ Area in Dagbolu, Osun State. The state government appealed to residents to provide any information that could help identify the parents of the abandoned baby.

It is disheartening to witness cases of newborn babies being abandoned. It is crucial for society to come together to address this issue and ensure the well-being and safety of these innocent lives. The government, community organizations, and individuals should work hand in hand to create awareness, provide support, and establish safe spaces for mothers who find themselves in difficult circumstances.

Abandoning newborn babies not only puts their lives at risk but also violates their rights to care, protection, and a loving family. It is our collective responsibility to prevent such incidents and provide a better future for these vulnerable children.

We commend the social worker for her quick response and compassion in saving the life of the abandoned baby. Her selflessness serves as an inspiration and reminds us of the importance of empathy and kindness in our society.

Let us join hands to create a safer and more nurturing environment for all children, where they can grow up with love and dignity. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that no baby is left abandoned and vulnerable.
