Kaduna Islamic cleric, Sheikh Gumi, has described his meeting with security agencies as “productive” following his invitation by the Federal Government over his comments on banditry in the country. The Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, had earlier stated that the government deemed it necessary to question Sheikh Gumi, emphasizing that no one is above the law.

Sheikh Gumi had previously offered to negotiate with the bandits who abducted schoolchildren from Kuriga Government Secondary and LEA Primary Schools in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Sheikh Gumi assured his followers that there was no cause for alarm and that the meeting with security agencies was conducted with courtesy and respect. He also called for unity and synergy in order to achieve lasting peace in the nation.

The meeting between Sheikh Gumi and the security agencies is a significant step towards finding solutions to the issue of banditry in Nigeria. It demonstrates the government’s commitment to addressing the security challenges facing the country and highlights the importance of dialogue and cooperation in resolving conflicts.

It is essential for all stakeholders to work together in synergy to tackle the menace of banditry and promote peace and unity in Nigeria. The outcome of the meeting between Sheikh Gumi and the security agencies will hopefully contribute to the ongoing efforts to curb banditry and create a safer and more secure environment for all Nigerians.
