Tragic Incident as Unidentified Driver Fatally Strikes Two LAWMA Officials While Fleeing LASTMA Raid.

In a devastating turn of events, an unidentified driver fatally crushed two female officials of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) while attempting to evade a raid by officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA).

The unfortunate incident unfolded near the Charlie Boy bus-stop via Oshodi-Gbagada expressway in Lagos State on Monday, resulting in the immediate loss of lives for the yet-to-be-identified women.

Eyewitnesses at the scene described the accident as ghastly, recounting that the two LAWMA workers were struck down by a Sienna vehicle while diligently carrying out their duties. The driver’s motivations remain unclear, as the vehicle veered into their path, causing the tragic outcome.

The lifeless bodies of the LAWMA officials were discovered in a drainage channel, prompting onlookers to mourn the untimely loss.

The eyewitness shared, “It was a ghastly accident; two LAWMA women were just knocked down by a Sienna vehicle while they were carrying out their duty. We don’t know what was wrong with the driver; he just drove straight here and hit the two women. It is such a pity. The driver has been arrested and handed over to the police.”

As news of the incident spread, traffic chaos ensued on the Oshodi-Gbagada motorway, leaving hundreds of cars and commuters stranded for hours. The influx of vehicles using alternative lanes to navigate the area intensified the congestion, causing a standstill in traffic movement.

In response to the escalating situation, law enforcement authorities swiftly arrived at the scene to mitigate the potential for further chaos and ensure public safety. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the critical need for vigilance and adherence to traffic regulations to prevent such tragic occurrences on the roads.
