Two suspects have been apprehended by members of the Rapid Response Squad of the Ekiti State Police Command for stealing diesel from the generating plants that power street lights in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

On Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, stated that the two suspects, Danjuma and Idowu, were apprehended on Wednesday by members of the RRS along NTA Road, Ado Ekiti, while attempting to escape with a 25-liter gallon of diesel that is believed to have been stolen from the generating set.

Abutu stated, “The suspects confessed that they committed the crime during interrogation.”

The suspects also admitted to selling the stolen diesel to Ado-Ekiti residents who were unaware of their existence for some time. The spokesperson for the police stated, “They will be arraigned in due course.”

Abutu urged residents of Ekiti to maintain a high level of security at all times and to make an effort to notify security personnel of any suspicious activity in their immediate area so that they can take the necessary measures.
