On Tuesday, two individuals suspected to be bombers for the notorious Boko Haram group surrendered themselves to the troops of Sector 3 Multi-National Joint Task Force in Monguno, Borno State. The individuals, identified as 19-year-old Abubakar Mohammed, also known as Garba, and 13-year-old Babagana Modu, chose to surrender instead of carrying out the terrorist group’s orders.

Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, the Chief Military Public Information Officer of MNJTF, confirmed the surrender in a press statement on Monday. According to Abdullahi, the surrendered bombers confessed to being instructed to plant improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along the roads of Doron Baga and Fish Dam in Baga, Kukawa Local Government Area of the state.

The Sector 3 of the Multinational Joint Task Force Monguno, Nigeria, reported the continuous surrender of terrorists in its Area of Operations. The recent surrender of the two individuals marked a significant success in the ongoing campaign to dismantle Boko Haram’s operations in the region.

During the preliminary investigation, Mohammed and Modu revealed that they made the decision to abandon their mission and escape with the IEDs. Their choice was influenced by the MNJTF’s recently concluded Operation NASHRUL SALAM, a non-kinetic operation and the sector’s personal engagement strategy with relevant sources, showcasing the effectiveness of psychological operations in the fight against terrorism.

The surrendered individuals were found in possession of two IEDs, two mobile phones, and a sum of fifty-three thousand Naira (N53,000.00). This development highlights the commitment of the MNJTF to encourage other terrorists hiding in the Lake Chad Islands to come forward, surrender, and lay down their arms, with the aim of achieving sustainable peace in the region.

Lieutenant Colonel Abdullahi reiterated the dedication of the MNJTF to its mission of restoring peace and facilitating the return of normalcy to the Lake Chad Basin.

The surrender of these two bomb experts is a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the region. It showcases the effectiveness of psychological operations and the commitment of the military forces to dismantle Boko Haram’s operations. The MNJTF remains steadfast in its mission to restore peace and ensure the safety and well-being of the communities in the Lake Chad Basin.
