Nigeria: Robbers attack Ogun ‘PC Town’, kill one

A dealer, distinguished as Dayo Bankole, was on Wednesday shot dead, while a few others were harmed during a burglary assault at a famous telephone market, also called “PC town” in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Our correspondent learned that on motorcycles, an eight-man gang of armed robbers stormed the market at Ibara, Abeokuta’s commercial hub, in broad daylight and began sporadic shooting.

It was learned that people fled to safety to avoid being shot after the incident caused panic in the area.

However, the traders later found the courage to pursue their attackers, resulting in the arrest of one of them.

The deceased died while receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Ijaye Abeokuta, according to our correspondent.

Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Public Relations Officer for the Police, confirmed the incident by stating that the police “successfully repelled the armed robbery gang.”

“The armed robbery gang stormed the market at about 5:30 p.m., started shooting sporadically, and carting away expensive phones,” Oyeyemi stated in a statement on Thursday morning.

He said that a distress call was made to the police at Ibara division, and the DPO of Ibara division, Abayomi Adeniji, immediately sent members of the Amotekun corps and his anti-robbery and surveillance teams to the scene.

He said, “The furnished burglary group numbering around eight, raged the market famously known as “TARMARC” at around 5:30 p.m, began shooting inconsistently and trucking away costly telephones.
