The funeral ceremony for the late Nollywood make-up artist, Abigail Edith Frederick, was held in Eket, Akwa Ibom State, on Tuesday. Family members and friends gathered to pay their last respects as her remains were laid to rest in her hometown of Ikot Udoma.

Frederick, who was only 24 years old, tragically lost her life along with five other film practitioners, including Junior Pope, in a boat accident in the River Niger. The state governor, Umo Eno, had visited the family and directed that her remains, which had initially been buried by the river, be exhumed and brought back for a proper burial in the state.

During the funeral service conducted by the Church of Christ, Ikot Udoma, various dignitaries were in attendance, including the Eket Transition Committee Chairman, Akaniyene Tommey, the Commissioner for Tourism, Charles Udoh, and members of the Nollywood community. The ceremony was a somber occasion, with tears flowing freely as family and friends bid their final farewell to the talented make-up artist.

Governor Eno, during his visit to the family, expressed his condolences and offered support to the deceased’s siblings. He announced automatic employment for her elder sister and directed the renovation of the family house. Eno emphasized the importance of pursuing one’s passions and commended Frederick for her determination to follow her dreams.

The tragic incident and the subsequent funeral ceremony highlight the close-knit nature of the community in Akwa Ibom State. The governor’s presence and support demonstrated the care and solidarity that exists among the people of the state. The loss of such a young and talented individual serves as a reminder of the fragility of life and the need to cherish every moment.

As the late Abigail Edith Frederick is laid to rest, her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May her soul rest in peace.
