In a significant breakthrough, officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) successfully apprehended two fleeing robbery suspects believed to be part of the notorious ‘Catch in the Air’ robbery gang, commonly known as ‘One Chance.’ The operation took place in the Abule-Egba area of Lagos.

The suspects were caught with their operational commercial bus, bearing the license plate APP 406 YE. The gang, known for terrorizing Abule-Egba and its surroundings, operated with a modus operandi that involved picking unsuspecting commuters at bus stops. Some members posed as passengers, only to attack and rob victims of their cash, mobile phones, and other valuables. Subsequently, they would forcefully eject their victims from the vehicle before making a swift escape.

Luck ran out for the suspects when members of the public chased them after witnessing an individual being robbed and pushed out of their vehicle. In an attempt to evade arrest, the suspects drove recklessly, but they were eventually captured by vigilant LASTMA officials responsible for traffic control in the Abule-Egba area.

Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, provided details of the arrest, stating, “They were being chased by members of the public when they noticed that a man was pushed down from their vehicle after robbing him of his valuables.”

Upon their arrest, one of the suspects managed to escape with a Point of Sale (P.O.S) machine before the arrival of the police. The two apprehended suspects were subsequently handed over to the police from the ‘Ile-Epo’ Police Division for further investigation.

The operation highlights the effectiveness of collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies and vigilant citizens in curbing criminal activities in the region. The swift action by LASTMA officials and subsequent collaboration with the police underscore the commitment to maintaining safety and security in Lagos.

As investigations continue, the arrest serves as a warning to criminal elements, emphasizing the dedication of authorities to apprehending those responsible for criminal activities in the state.
