NDEY JOBARTEH : FGM IN THE GAMBIA

Feminist Ndey Jobarteh is based in Norway with Gambian origins and is passionate about the Empowerment of Women and girls and ending all forms of Violence including Female Genital Mutilation .

Ndey Jobarteh served between April 2001 – February 2006 as Grants Manager, at the African Women’s Development Fund, Working closely with the Executive Director, Establish the African Women’s Development Fund in Ghana and managed AWDF’s five thematic areas and Grants Department. Managed a grant portfolio of 300 organisations in 33 African countries, disbursing and managing nine grant cycles. Assessed and scored project proposals, wrote-up application dockets, and made recommendations to the Director and Board for grant approvals. Analysed and reviewed project, monitoring and impact reports from grantees and consultants. Developed and maintained the AWDF Grant Information and Management System (GIMS), maintaining efficient grant making processes, procedure and administration. Developed and maintained a grantee list-server/database. Conducted on-going research on trends in grant-making, and conducted site visits to grantees throughout Africa. Provided briefings to women’s NGOs in selected African countries, and participated in professional dialogues and reviews of the changing philanthropic environment. Attended meetings of Grant Managers’ Networks, as member of the Senior Management Team. Line managed staff and supported and deputised for the Executive Director.

Ndey is part and parcel of the Feminist lobby group that is urging The Gambian Republic to adhere to its international human rights obligations and continue to support the criminalisation of purportrators of FGM in the Gambia.
