Nigeria: From England youth to AFCON star: Lookman plays leading role for Nigeria

Ademola Lookman, the former England youth international, has been making headlines for his impressive performances in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for Nigeria. Lookman has scored all of Nigeria’s goals in the knockout stage so far, including a brace against Cameroon and the winning goal against Angola. With star player Victor Osimhen struggling with an abdominal problem, Lookman’s contributions have been crucial for Nigeria. Despite the depth of talent in Nigeria’s attack, Lookman has made it impossible for coach Jose Peseiro to drop him. Lookman’s success can be attributed to his settled form at Atalanta in Italy, where he has flourished under manager Gian Gasperini. As Nigeria faces South Africa in the semi-finals, Lookman aims to lead his team to victory and add the AFCON title to his Under-20 World Cup winner’s medal that he won with England.
