What Does It Mean the Gambia To Act Ethically in Public Diplomacy?

By Alagi Yorro Jallow.
Fatoumatta: To be a Palestinian child is to wake up to the sound of gunshot, the cry of the maimed and, the sobbing of mothers. To be a Palestinian child is to stay hungry, to drink polluted water; to miss school, a playground and to confront bare health care. To be a Palestinian child is to see them maim and arrest your siblings; to be angry, to throw stones at soldiers, to inhale teargas, to be arrested; to be shot.
Fatoumatta: Recently, the Palestinian people, the Israeli soldiers opened fire on unarmed protesters killing dozens; maiming many. Just another statistic, by a sadistic state. The Gambia government did not condemn the barbaric attack against the Palestinian people or care to spare a thought for the child living in overcrowded, contested spaces of Palestine.
Fatoumatta: The Saudi Arabia came under intense criticism in 2018 following the October 2,2018 murder of prominent Saudi Journalist Jamal Khashoggi inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul by Saudi agents. The Gambia government refused to issue a statement to condemn the killing of Washington Post contributor and Saudi government critic Jamal Khashoggi as intolerable and criticize the hysterical global reaction in the case. The killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi threatened to undermine stability in the Middle East.
Fatoumatta: The Gambia government renews its full support and solidarity in standing with Saudi Arabia in its ongoing war against the poor people of Yemen. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad continues to stand by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for all measure it takes in defending its territory, maintaining its security and stability and the protection of the people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Gambia government failed to speak out against Israeli aggression on the Palestinian people and the West Bank atrocities.

Fatoumatta: Is it a diplomatic niceties or political hypocrisy in our foreign policy in the Gulf states and in the Middle East? The Gambia Govt issued a press statement dated 15th September 2019 condemned missile attacks in Eastern Saudi Arabia on oil installations but silenced on attacks against the Palestine, Syria, in Yemen and on the killing of a prominent Saudi Journalist Jamal Khashoggi and never sever ties.
Fatoumatta: Last year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad issued a strongly worded statement condemn missile attacks on Saudi Arabia by Houthi Militias which took place on 25th March 2018.
Fatoumatta: Why is the Gambia government always standing with the oppressor Israel and Saudi Arabia? The government of President Adama Barrow has not only embarrassed the Gambian people but lack serious cohesive foreign policy blueprint for the country as an independent and responsible member of the global community.
Fatoumatta: The government has repeatedly failed to show solidarity with the oppressed people of Palestine with regards to the barbaric attacks on Palestine by US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
