Uncertainty Awaits Gambia’s National Team After Early Defeat

By Ousman A. Marong

Gambia national team arrived in Angola in the early hours of Sunday morning, landing to a very low-key reception after their humiliating defeat by Angola on home ground last Friday on the on-going 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

Their early defeat by Angola last Friday at the Independence Stadium in Bakau brought the curtain down on this promising cycle for the national side, as well as few its top stars.

The scorpions of The Gambia only have themselves to blame for their premature performance against Angola on home ground, and to face an uncertain period ahead in their Tuesdays return leg in Luanda, Angola.

Tom Seinfeld vowed to change result in Luanda

The Head Coach of the Gambia senior national squad Tom Seinfeld vowed to change deficit in Launda in their Tomorrow’s match against the favorite.

Back in last year during the African Cup of Nation qualifiers, it was the same Tom Seinfeld who vowed to build the national team for the future, but his Friday defeat by Angola at home shows no shadow in the team making it up to neither World Cup nor African Cup of Nation.

The senior team today begin their first training match for which the coach lauded the good atmosphere in Luanda.

“We have started our first training match today and the atmosphere is very good,” he echoed in an interview with Bakary B. Baldeh GFF media Officer.

He gave the excuse that during the Angola – Gambia match at home on some key players have received some injuries and might not be fit to feature in the Tuesday match in Luanda.

“We have some players who have some knocks and I am doubtful if they would be able to play the Tuesday match. We didn’t want to push too much, we have recovery session for the players who have played more than 45 minutes,” he remarked.

He said they have played five (5) against five (5) during their todays training match.

Playing five (5) against five (5) in a training match shows the coach only has only an eleven-man squad with no reserves to be featured in the Tuesday match against Angola in Luanda.
