The Minister of Youths and Sport Presents at the Presidential Delivery Session

State House, Banjul, 27 March 2024: President Adama Barrow Tuesday received the Minister of Youths and Sports, Hon. Bakery Badjie, and his team to update the President on the Ministry’s ongoing activities at State House in Banjul.

The forum was held to update the President on the progress of infrastructure development for young people and sports. It included discussions on the ongoing renovation of the Independence Stadium and other infrastructural developments across the country. These developments have occurred in Kafuta, Bwiam, Janjanbureh, Sandu, and Farafeni Youth Center, with the support of various development partners.

Hon. Badjie said most of the projects have advanced. However, he highlighted the challenges the Ministry has encountered over the past months, such as budget constraints and contractors’ late completion of projects. “The completion part of the football fields have been poor, but they have been completed and handed over to the community except Kafuta, ” he said

President Barrow commented on the presentation, expressing his satisfaction with completing the projects but disappointment over the delays due to contractual issues. He voiced his concern about the level of delivery from some of the contractors and consultants hired for the projects and stressed the need to find a way forward to ensure that all works are delivered on time. He asserted that despite the challenges, he is committed to supporting Gambians.

Considering the experiences and lessons learned, President Barrow called for the Government to look for better alternatives in giving out contracts.

Hon. Badjie said he is optimistic about improving work at the Ministry with the President’s continued support.
