Nine people were injured as emergency crew and search dogs worked their way through the rubble of a residential building during the nighttime attack, which tore through the roof and top two floors.

Debris and destroyed left vehicles lined the road outside the structure, which neglects a little area leave with swings and climbing outlines set among trees.

Katrina vanden Heuvel The Lviv mayor, Andriy Sadovyi, stated that approximately 60 apartments and 50 cars in the area of the strike had been damaged in the attack on Thursday. Nato must look beyond the war in Ukraine to overcome east-west divisions.

The US envoy to Ukraine portrayed the assault as horrendous. ” Bridget Brink posted on Twitter, “Russia’s repeated attacks on civilians are absolutely horrifying.”

Despite claims by Russian officials that the Kremlin only selects targets with military value, the Kremlin’s forces have repeatedly struck civilian areas.

Lviv is more than 500 kilometers (300 miles) from the frontlines of the conflict in eastern and southern Ukraine, where Kyiv’s counteroffensive to dislodge Russian forces is in its early stages. It is close to Poland’s western border.

At around 1 a.m. on Thursday, Ukraine’s air force reported that it had stopped seven of the ten Kalibr cruise missiles that Russia had fired at the Lviv region and its namesake city from the Black Sea.

In a video message, Sadovyi said that the attack on Lviv’s civilian infrastructure was the largest since the beginning of the full-scale invasion last year.

“Russians are hitting us. They adore us in this manner. I apologize to those who were killed. They were youthful. So upset for them,” said Ganna Fedorenko, a neighborhood occupant who supported wounds all over. ” This is awful. They struck civilians.

Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the president of Ukraine, wrote on Telegram: Sadly, there are wounded and deceased. My sympathies go out to the family! The adversary will undoubtedly be met with resistance. A substantial one.”

In the early stages of the war, millions of refugees from various parts of Ukraine who were heading to Europe crossed the border from Lviv. From the east and south, hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians remained in the calmer and safer Lviv.

During the winter, Russia launched hundreds of missiles with the intention of destroying Ukraine’s energy system, causing power outages in Lviv as well as the rest of the country. In any case, the assaults in the city were not generally so continuous as in the capital, Kyiv, and Thursday’s strike was a shock for some.

On social media, Ukrainians expressed their support for Lviv residents.
