PRINCE and Harry and Meghan Markle announced in a statement via Instagram that they “intent to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family”.
The couple added that they will split their time between the UK and North America – read on to find out when they will set off, and how long they’ll spend in Canada.
When are Meghan and Harry leaving the UK?
Meghan has already exited the UK, allegedly fleeing after just three days to reunite with eight-month-old baby Archie, who was being cared for by her BFF Rachel Mulroney.
Meg didn’t stick around after the pair dropped the bombshell news of the Royal resignation via Instagram.
The pair posted to their official Sussex Royal page: “After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution.
“We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.
“It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment. We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages.
“This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity.
“We look forward to sharing the full details of this exciting next step in due course, as we continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and all relevant parties. Until then, please accept our deepest thanks for your continued support”.
Is the move permanent?
The pair have insisted that they will split their time between the UK and Canada – but there are mounting fears that they may not return.
It was revealed that the couple’s beloved pet dogs had been moved out to their royal hideaway mansion on Vancouver Island well ahead of the statement, which was apparently a big clue that the pair were planning more than just a holiday.
However, official details will not become clear until after Harry’s crunch meeting with the Queen and the rest of the family in the coming weeks, where the full extent of the split will be hashed out and okayed by the Queen.
