The Gambia Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) on Friday beat Castle Company Limited 3-1 in the opening game of the Stakeholders’ Football Tournament organised by PURA. The tournament’s premier match was played at Box Bar Mini Stadium in Brikama.

A brace from skipper Dodou S. Joof and another from Landing Sanneh for PURA ensured Kekuta Hydara’s strike for Castle Company Limited served as a consolation.

Unique Group defeated Africell Gambia Limited 2-0 on the same day at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium.

The tournament for sectors under PURA’s regulatory zone features 12 teams from different institutions.

The principal objective of the football tournament is to foster stronger relationships and promote camaraderie through the power of sports among participating institutions within the regulated industry.

Burama Jammeh, director of Economics Relations at PURA in deputising for his director general, said the tournament is informed by the firm belief that as stakeholders who are deeply devoted to the advancement and prosperity of their industries, it is imperative that they do not only collaborate professionally but also engage in activities like football to enhance team spirit and unity.

He added that the football tournament provides a unique opportunity for them to connect on personal and social levels, reinforcing the bonds that unite them.

“Through the thrill of the competitive matches, we aim to bring joy, create networking opportunities, and share moments of laughter and camaraderie. These interactions will undoubtedly enhance our collective efforts, contributing to a more cohesive and prosperous industry,” he also said.

Mr Jammeh thanked all participating institutions and the organising committee.
