President Barrow Commends GRCS for Promoting Peace and Stability
State House, Banjul, 8th March 2023: President Barrow commended the Gambia Red Cross Society
for complementing the Government’s effort to promote peace and stability through its social
projects. He made the remarks when he received the newly elected Governing Board at this office
on Wednesday, 8th March 2023.
President Barrow assured them of his Government’s support and promised to look into their
requests. He congratulated them for the progress registered in the recent past through the innovative
and trustworthy partnership built while calling on them to continue partnering with the Ministry of
Health to improve the much-needed ambulance services.
The President informed the Red Cross Society team that his Government is using innovative
measures to reduce the deficit in the current poor road conditions by constructing rural and urban
road networks using local resources mobilisation strategies.
Introducing the Governing Board, the Secretary-General of the GRCS, Mr Allasan Senghore,
outlined the purpose of their visit in two folds; introduced the new Governing Board members to
their Chief Patron and briefed him on the governance and management of the Society.
The Newly elected National President of the GRCS, Fa Bakary Kalleh, thanked the outgoing team
for the achievements registered during their tenure and pledged to continue to build on them. The
Society’s volunteers increased in three years as its business portfolio increased from D19 million to
138 million in 2021/2022. He called on the Government to continue to support them in their
endeavours through partnership and raising funds. He reported on the water systems and gardens
for hard-to-reach communities and partnered with the Ministry of Health to train Community Health
