Police begin an investigation after a man in Anambra was killed by suspected cultists

Some yet-to-be-distinguished hooligans thought to be cultists have wounded and butchered a man accepted to be deranged in Awka, the Anambra State capital.

The episode occurred on Tuesday while the casualty was sitting at his typical base at the Embankment Park, close to Zik Road, when the thought cultists attacked the spot.

An onlooker in the space said the thought cultists shot the man prior to utilizing sharp items to cut and dissect him.

However, residents disagreed about the victim’s actual health, with some claiming he was mentally ill and others disagreeing.

Reached, the state Police Advertising Official, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, affirmed the killing, adding that the Divisional Cop of Focal Police headquarters in Awka conveyed men to prevent further breakdown of the rule of law nearby.

Ikenga said, “The DPO quickly got the ball rolling, recovered the carcass, and kept it in a funeral home.

“I cannot confirm that the man was insane, but we will be able to determine the deceased’s mental health when the family comes to retrieve the body.

“For the present, police are liaising with onlookers to guarantee that the culprits are followed and captured.”

The state has seen an increase in the number of cult-related murders committed by rival groups, particularly in Awka and the surrounding areas.
