A Palestinian assailant armed with a knife stabbed and seriously injured an Israeli soldier in annexed East Jerusalem on Monday, police said.
Separately, the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced that Israeli forces killed a Palestinian youth and seriously injured three others in the occupied southern West Bank town of Harfur.
“A terrorist armed with a knife arrived at Shalem police station and stabbed a female soldier…Border police opened fire and neutralized the terrorist,” a police statement said.
Police said one soldier was seriously injured and another had minor injuries, AFP news agency said.
Israeli emergency services said they provided medical treatment to the injured, both aged 20.
The attacker was identified by police as a young Palestinian from East Jerusalem’s Issawiya neighborhood.
It added that “another suspect” was arrested near the crime scene, which was cordoned off.
This is the latest escalation in violence in the region as Israel steps up its military offensive in the Gaza Strip.
On October 30, a Palestinian stabbed and seriously injured an Israeli police officer in East Jerusalem, before being shot dead, police said.
The Israeli military is stepping up ground attacks in the Gaza Strip as part of its military response to the October 7 Hamas attack. Officials said the attack killed 1,400 people, mostly civilians, and took more than 240 hostages.
More than 150 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli soldiers and settlers in the West Bank since fighting began on October 7, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
