Ogun police arrest two students on suspicion of school arson

The Ogun State Police Command has announced the arrest of two minors for allegedly setting a school on fire in Isheri Olofin area of Ifo Local Government Area of the state.
Spokesman of the command, Mr. Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
Mr. Odutola discovered that minors broke into the school, collected books left by teachers and set them on fire, damaging textbooks.
She said: “Two students (6 and 9 years old) of Isheri Olofin Community Primary School, both residents of Isheri Olofin Community, were arrested on October 29, 2023 for setting fire to the school and its premises.

“This incident was reported to the police by a community leader. The report said the minors had access to one of the unlocked classrooms at Isheri Olofin Community Primary School. He then collected books left behind by teachers and students and set them on fire. The value of the damaged book is unknown at this time.
“Following the report, the Crime Control and Detective Department visited the crime scene and took the suspect’s children to the police station for questioning,” she said.
Odutola further disclosed that the minor’s parents will be invited for questioning regarding the circumstances surrounding the child’s conduct.
“This is such a serious crime for children that the police have launched an investigation into how to contact the parents.
“The police should educate the public in due course and incite the young people. It will let you know if there are other people who might be available,” she concluded.
