In a recent commendation award ceremony by the Correspondents’ Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ekiti State Council, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, the Vice Chancellor of Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), advocated for an increase in the salaries of academics. Specifically, he emphasized that professors should earn no less than N1 million per month. Prof.

Fasina also praised the Federal Government’s decision to exempt public universities from the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS), citing the move as crucial for autonomy and effective management of university affairs. The VC highlighted the benefits of this exemption, including the ability to use Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to supplement salaries and manage university systems more efficiently. This shift, according to him, would alleviate bureaucratic challenges faced under IPPIS and mark a positive transformation in the education sector.
