An 18-year-old pregnant housewife, Khadija Adamu, has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for allegedly bludgeoning her five-year-old stepdaughter to death for defecating on her body.
Ms Khadija, who said she regrets her actions, said she only wanted to correct her child, which she claimed was not intentional.
While marching in front of her Bauchi State Police Command, she appealed to newspaper reporters for her leniency.
“How can you kill a child who looks like your own child? She is her wife’s child, but she is her husband’s child so she was also my daughter. What happened was wrong and there was no premeditated attempt to kill him.
“I am also a mother and am currently 4 months pregnant with my second child. How could I kill another child? What happened was that this girl defecated on her body. But I thought I shouldn’t do something like that at her age, so I used the USB cable to hit her.I didn’t mean to kill her.
“I didn’t know she was going to die. I just wanted to set her straight. She didn’t die the day I hit her. The next day she died. That she died. is very sad and unfortunate.
“Everyone has forgiven me, so I ask for your patience. My actions were not premeditated, so I ask the police to forgive me for anything other than the baby in my womb.
