In a distressing incident on Monday, an unspecified number of schoolchildren were reportedly abducted by unidentified gunmen in Emure Local Government of Ekiti State. The victims, students from an undisclosed school, were traveling in their school bus near the Eporo-Ekiti boundary when the abduction occurred.

Details surrounding the incident remain unclear, with the actual number of students taken still unknown. The local authorities are yet to confirm the occurrence, heightening the sense of urgency and concern within the community.

This unfortunate event follows closely on the heels of the tragic killing of two traditional rulers in the state. The Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti, Oba Olatunde Samuel Olusola, and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, Oba David Babatunde Ogunsola, lost their lives in an ambush by armed individuals while returning from a meeting. The Alara of Ara-Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Fatoba, narrowly escaped the attack.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti state strongly condemned this heinous act and issued directives to security operatives to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the deaths of the two traditional rulers. Assuring the people of the state, he emphasized that the government is committed to unraveling the circumstances surrounding these incidents and ensuring justice is served.

As the community grapples with the repercussions of these distressing events, concerns about the safety and security of citizens are escalating. The state government remains resolute in its determination to address the root causes of these occurrences and bring those responsible to justice.
