Nigeria: Two Suspected Kidnappers Killed, Rifle Recovered in Kogi State

On May 29, 2024, the Kogi State Police Command announced the successful neutralization of two kidnappers operating in the Ankumi forest, Obajana. The statement was issued by the Public Relations Officer of the command, SP William Aya, in Lokoja.

The operation was part of the ongoing efforts to combat banditry, kidnapping, and other heinous crimes in Kogi State. Acting on a tip-off received on May 29 2024, the Nigeria Police Force operatives attached to the Obajana Division, in collaboration with Fulani vigilantes, discovered that three armed hoodlums were present inside the Ankumi forest. Immediately, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Oguche Richard, mobilized his patrol team and the Fulani vigilantes to the area.

Upon reaching the forest at approximately 2:30 PM, the team encountered the armed hoodlums who opened fire. In response, the police team engaged in a gun duel with the criminals. Due to the superior firepower of the police team, two of the hoodlums were fatally wounded, while the others managed to escape with bullet wounds.

During the operation, the police recovered an AK 47 rifle with two magazines and two rounds of live ammunition. Efforts are currently underway to trail and apprehend the fleeing suspects.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bethrand C. Onuoha, psc (+), commended the officers involved in the operation for their unwavering commitment and dedication in sustaining the fight against crime and criminality. He assured the people of Kogi State that the police force remains determined to work in synergy with other security agencies to ensure the safety of life and property in the state.

This successful operation is a testament to the continuous efforts of the police and their dedication to maintaining peace and security in Kogi State. The State Police Command will continue to prioritize the fight against banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities, ensuring that the people of Kogi State can live in safety and peace.
