The serene atmosphere at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) was shattered when news broke of a tragic incident involving two students. Chinagorom Marvellous Kingsley, a 22-year-old final year student at FUTO, was fatally stabbed on Thursday night by Francis Marvellous, a 21-year-old 300-level student of Imo State University (IMSU).

According to the Imo State Police Command, the altercation that led to the stabbing was a result of a heated argument between the two students. The use of a knife in the altercation resulted in the tragic loss of Chinagorom’s life.

However, contrary to initial reports, the Police have dismissed claims that the stabbing was carried out by an individual of Hausa Fulani descent. The Commissioner of Police has instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department to ensure that the suspects involved in the incident, as well as those spreading false information, are apprehended and brought to justice.

The Police further stated that Francis Marvellous, the alleged perpetrator, has been taken into custody. Upon interrogation, Francis confessed to the crime, admitting that he had a heated argument with members of FUTO’s Man O’ War Unit, during which he used a concealed knife to fatally stab Chinagorom.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has assured the public, especially the staff and students of FUTO, that security measures have been heightened to prevent any future incidents. He has also cautioned against vigilantism, urging students to allow the ongoing investigation to run its course.

This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the importance of conflict resolution and the need for peaceful coexistence within the academic community. The loss of a promising young student has left the FUTO community in mourning, and efforts are underway to ensure that justice is served and that such a tragedy does not occur again.
