Nigeria: Tragic Accident Claims Lives of Siblings in Ogun State

In a heart-wrenching incident, two siblings lost their lives in a tragic accident at the Iruwon junction along the Imowo-Ibadan garage road in Ijebu Ode. The Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) confirmed the unfortunate incident, shedding light on the details.
According to Mr. Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for TRACE, the accident occurred at 7:50am and involved a Honda Accord car. The car, marked KJA 394 EE, was traveling at excessive speed when the driver lost control and collided with two pedestrians walking by the roadside. The victims, identified as a male and female sibling, were hit from behind, resulting in their immediate demise.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the Honda car driver was unable to navigate the bend due to the high speed at which the vehicle was traveling. As a result, the car crashed into the unsuspecting siblings, causing fatal injuries. The deceased pedestrians were swiftly taken to the Ijebu Ode General Hospital Mortuary for further proceedings.
The Honda Accord car involved in the accident was later towed to the police station at Obalende, Ijebu Ode, for a thorough investigation into the incident. The driver of the car was apprehended by the police from Obalende Division, Ijebu Ode, to aid in the investigation.
The aftermath of the accident saw a wave of anger among the local community, leading to the blockage of the Imowo-Ibadan garage road by enraged youths. However, with the intervention of the police and the Nigerian Army, the road was cleared, preventing any potential acts of violence.
Akinbiyi expressed his condolences to the grieving family of the deceased and emphasized the importance of responsible driving. He urged motorists to avoid excessive speed, as it poses a significant risk to both their lives and the lives of pedestrians. Additionally, he advised pedestrians to face oncoming traffic while walking by the roadside to minimize the chances of accidents.
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for road users to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations.
