Nigeria: “Tragic Accident Claims Life of 27-Year-Old Lagos Resident: Recovery Efforts Successful After Two Days of Search”

In a somber turn of events, the body of 27-year-old Adeyemi Azeez has been recovered from a lagoon in the Alapere area of Lagos after an extensive two-day search conducted by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service. The tragic incident occurred on January 1, 2024, when Azeez accidentally fell into a drain collector canal, ultimately leading to the lagoon. Azeez, a resident of Community Avenue, Oshogun, in Agboyi –Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Alapere, met an untimely demise, prompting swift response and rescue operations.

The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, revealed that they received information about the incident at approximately 8:56 pm on Monday, January 1, 2024. The dedicated rescue crew stationed at the Ikeja Fire Station promptly initiated search and rescue efforts to locate the missing individual.

After two days of intensive search and rescue operations, Azeez’s lifeless body was recovered on Wednesday, January 3, 2023, around 4:05 pm. This heartbreaking discovery marked the end of a painstaking search that involved the dedicated efforts of the rescue team.

Margaret Adeseye expressed the deepest condolences of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service to the family and friends of Azeez during this challenging time. The recovered body has been handed over to the Alapere Police Division for further procedures, bringing closure to a sorrowful chapter for the family and community.

This tragic incident highlights the importance of safety precautions around water bodies and the need for awareness about potential hazards.
