In a shocking act of violence, daredevil gunmen infiltrated the serene atmosphere of the palace of Olukoro of Koro in Ekiti local government area, Kwara State, claiming the life of the community’s traditional ruler, General Segun Aremu (rtd), on Thursday night.
The assailants, armed and ruthless, not only took the life of the revered monarch but also abducted his wife and two other individuals, leaving the community in a state of mourning and disbelief. Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, swiftly condemned the heinous act, describing it as reckless, shocking, and abominable.
Governor AbdulRazaq, through his chief press secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, conveyed deep condolences to the people of Koro, expressing solidarity during this devastating time. He emphasized the need for security agencies to mobilize all available resources to track down the perpetrators, secure the release of the abducted individuals, and bring the culprits to justice.
In a determined statement, the governor declared, “We will certainly get the perpetrators and ensure that this is their last crime against humanity. My profound condolences go to the people of Koro. Our hearts are broken, and we stand by them at this time and always.”
The incident adds to the growing concerns over the security situation in various parts of the country. The audacity of the gunmen to target a traditional ruler in his palace raises questions about the effectiveness of existing security measures and underscores the urgency for comprehensive strategies to address the escalating violence.
As the community grapples with the tragic loss of its leader and the uncertainty surrounding the abducted individuals, there is a collective call for justice and heightened security measures to prevent such atrocities in the future.
This unfortunate event serves as a stark reminder of the broader challenges facing the nation, prompting reflection on the need for collaborative efforts to enhance security and protect the lives and dignity of citizens. The government’s commitment to ensuring the swift resolution of this crime is crucial in restoring faith in the security apparatus and fostering a sense of safety within the affected community and beyond.
