The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has announced revised guidelines for individuals applying for certificate verification with foreign nursing boards/councils. According to the new guidelines, applicants are now required to have at least two years of post-qualification experience from the date of issuance of their permanent practicing license. They must also possess an active practicing license that is valid for at least six more months. The revised guidelines have sparked outrage among nurses and health workers, who see it as an infringement on their basic human rights. They argue that the requirements are unnecessary and are hindering their career progression. The NMCN has been criticized for not advocating for better salaries and working conditions for nurses. Nurses are calling on the government to intervene in the matter.
