Nigeria: Police officer injured as clashes intensify in Osun area

Four policemen have reportedly been injured by a mob amidst the ongoing communal crisis between Irobu and Ifon Olor communities in Osun State.

The injured police officers include the Divisional Police Station, DPO, Irepodun Divisional Headquarters as their police cars were torched by the crowd.

The communal crisis between two neighboring towns in Irepodun and Olor local government areas of the state flared up again on Wednesday.

This was following reports that one person was killed in an attack on residents of Ifon and Erin Osun by unknown armed groups. 4,444 4,444 Residents in both communities were evacuated from their homes after some homes were destroyed in gunfire between Wednesday night and today (Thursday) morning.

Yemisi Opalola, Osun Police Command Spokesperson, confirmed that four police officers, including the DPO, were injured and are receiving treatment at a hospital in the state.

She added that a police vehicle was destroyed when the Osun Police Commissioner, Kehinde Longe, led other security personnel into the town to maintain law and order.
