
Nigeria: Police arrest mother and son who buried stepson alive

4,444 personnel of the Kogi State Police Command have arrested a woman and her 19-year-old son buried her stepson for allegedly stealing N10,000.
But the victim was lucky as good Samaritans were able to dig him up alive.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening in Apamisede Municipality, Lokoja town.
Witnesses said the boy’s stepmother instructed her eldest son to punish the boy for stealing N10,000 on Friday.
Following his mother’s instructions, they beat the boy’s flesh and bruises, nearly causing the victim to lose both eyes, before burying him alive.
However, the victim was rescued by neighbors.
The suspect said he was only following his mother’s instructions to punish his brother who stole N10,000 from his mother and tried to run away as usual.
According to him, her mother attended church but left strict instructions to punish her younger brother.
Provincial Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) William Aya, who confirmed the incident, said the suspect has been arrested and is being interrogated. The boy has been arrested and an investigation is underway to find out why this happened.”
