Nigeria: Pastor commits suicide after church’s WhatsApp group is leaked

Christian pastor Oscar Mukahanana of the United Methodist Church is said to have committed suicide after an affair scandal was leaked on the church’s WhatsApp group.
A pastor who was the pastor of the Harare East District Superintendent of Education in Zimbabwe had an affair with a young woman at his church.
There were reports that an audio recording of a secret sexual act with the aforementioned woman was leaked to her WhatsApp group in the church.
He talked about his excitement after meeting his girlfriend and added that they had a good session before her period.
After the audio was leaked in a WhatsApp group, members of Mukahanana’s church began sharing the leaked conversations, making him the subject of ridicule.
Local media said they even created a meme mocking the district chief over the extramarital affair scandal.
Mr. Mukahanana, who felt humiliated and embarrassed by this incident, could not bear the embarrassment and committed suicide on Friday.
In response to the incident, UMC Harare District issued a statement saying:
“The Bishop’s Office will inform you of church developments and burial arrangements. As a church, we ask that you support the Mukahana family in your prayers.”
