Nigeria: Ondo minister bags two-year prison term for stealing

An Ondo Express Judges’ Court sitting in Akure, the state capital, has condemned a man, Friday Okeneji, to two years detainment for taking a few compound substances worth N130,000.

The convict, who is a minister of a well known church in Iwaro Oka Akoko in the Akoko South-West Nearby Government Region of the state was said to have committed the offense on July 2, 2023, in the town.

 He supposedly broke into a substance shop and took the things.

He was anyway captured and charged to court.

On two counts of theft, he was brought before the court for arraignment.

 When the two charges were read to the convicted pastor, he pleaded guilty and told the court that he committed the crime for survival.

 He argued that he had no method for job, adding that he needed to pay N150,000 for his mom’s entombment scheduled for August.

 In his decision, the Judge, Damilola Sekoni, said the minister was at real fault for the charges and condemned him to two years detainment with a choice of N100,000 fine.

Additionally, he advised the prisoner to start over.
