The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Correctional Service has announced that it will conduct an investigation into an alleged fraudulent activity involving an inmate.

The inmate, Ismalia Amaduli, is accused of defrauding a Lagos-based businesswoman, Grace Ogunrinde, of N700,000. According to Ogunrinde, she became friends with Amaduli on Facebook and was unaware that he was an inmate at the Ibara Correctional Centre. Amaduli allegedly told Ogunrinde that he was robbed on his way to a business trip and needed money for bail. Ogunrinde sent a total of N550,000 to a lawyer who claimed to be representing Amaduli. However, she did not receive any refund and later discovered that Amaduli had been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Ogunrinde has filed a petition with the Ogun State Commissioner of Police. The command’s spokesperson, Olayinka Odukoya, has stated that an investigation will be carried out to uncover the truth of the matter.
