Nigeria: Mentally-Ill Man Attacks Worshipper During Anambra Church Service

In a shocking incident that unfolded at an undisclosed church in Obosi, Anambra State, a mentally-unstable man, brought in for deliverance, stabbed another worshipper with a cutlass during a church service. The incident occurred on Monday when the pastor was conducting a deliverance session on the mentally-challenged individual.

According to reports, as the prayers were underway, a struggle ensued between the mentally unstable man, the pastor, and other church members. In the midst of this struggle, the man picked up a cutlass from the altar and attacked one of the worshippers, inflicting a deep injury.

The church, whose name is withheld, became the scene of this unfortunate incident as attempts were made to bring healing to the mentally unstable individual. The man of God, claiming he could heal the mentally-challenged person, initiated prayers. However, during the struggle, violence erupted, leading to the stabbing of a worshipper.

Following the incident, the mentally-unstable man was promptly taken to the hospital for psychiatric evaluation and medication. Simultaneously, the victim was rushed to another hospital, where reports indicate that he is responding positively to treatment.

Relatives of the mentally-challenged man have been invited for interrogation by the authorities. The Anambra State Police Command, represented by DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident. The police arrested the owner of the church where the incident occurred.

DSP Tochukwu Ikenga stated, “The victim has been taken to a hospital, and he is currently responding to treatment. Preliminary information revealed that the man of God claimed he could heal the madman and started praying.”

The mentally-unstable individual, responsible for the attack, is undergoing psychiatric evaluation and receiving necessary medical attention. Authorities are conducting further investigations into the incident.
