The Student Union President of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, Abbas Akinremi, has provided insight into the unfortunate lion attack that resulted in the death of a zookeeper. According to Akinremi, the incident was a result of human error, as the deceased zookeeper neglected to lock the gate of the lion’s den after feeding the animal. This lapse in protocol led to the tragic incident.

Despite the distressing occurrence, Akinremi assured the university community that there is no reason for panic. He emphasized that both on-campus and off-campus students are safe and that the campus is calm. Akinremi also expressed condolences to the family of the deceased zookeeper, describing him as a kind and diligent individual.

As a precautionary measure, the lion responsible for the attack has been euthanized to prevent any further incidents. The university administration, in collaboration with the Student Union, is also reviewing safety protocols to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Akinremi urged students to remain vigilant and to adhere to safety guidelines. He reiterated that the university is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of its students and staff.

In conclusion, Akinremi reaffirmed that the OAU community is resilient and united in the face of challenges. The university remains a safe and conducive environment for learning and personal development.
