According to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, a fire outbreak at the Mandilas building in Lagos was caused by careless welding during the installation of a power generating set on the second floor.

The fire started on the first floor and spread to the fourth floor of the 10-storey building on Broad Street, Lagos Island. Emergency responders from various stations were able to contain the fire and prevent it from engulfing the entire building.
