Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Oluyinka Olumide, clarified that the ongoing demolition in the state is not aimed at any specific group.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily program, Olumide denied allegations that the demolitions were targeting individuals from the south-eastern region.

He explained that the demolished buildings lacked approval from relevant agencies and were hastily constructed during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020. Despite unverified social media claims, Olumide emphasized that ownership of a building in Lagos is open to anyone adhering to established rules.

He challenged owners of demolished structures to present their building approvals, assuring that approved buildings would not face demolition. The commissioner underscored the removal of illegal structures on drainage systems, emphasizing that structures not compliant with the law are subject to demolition.
