In a proactive move to strengthen the fight against kidnapping and other crimes, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Egbetokun, has implemented a comprehensive upgrade of the Police Force’s intelligence department. This strategic enhancement aims to address the escalating crime rate across the nation.

As part of these measures, IGP Egbetokun has issued directives for the appointment of Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to head the Intelligence Department at both zonal and state command levels throughout the country. This decision underscores the IGP’s commitment to bolstering the efficiency of the intelligence department at all levels, aligning with his overarching vision for a safer and more secure nation.

According to Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, the IGP’s motivation for these changes is rooted in his vision to combat crime effectively. Adejobi highlighted that on assuming office, the IGP had reactivated the Presidential approval to elevate the Force Intelligence Bureau (FIB) to departmental status. This came with the appointment of DIG Habu Sanni as the head of the newly established Department of Force Intelligence.

The newly appointed Senior Officers have been entrusted with deploying intelligence-based assets to combat crimes and criminality within their respective jurisdictions. They have received a mandate from the IGP to uphold professionalism and leverage their extensive experience in fortifying the existing intelligence architecture of the Force. Importantly, these postings are effective immediately.

This strategic realignment and infusion of seasoned officers into key intelligence roles mark a decisive step toward enhancing the capabilities of the Police Force in tackling security challenges. The IGP’s vision focuses on a holistic and intelligence-driven approach to ensure a safer environment for all citizens.

In conclusion, these changes underscore the commitment of the Inspector General of Police to staying ahead of evolving security threats and proactively addressing the complex landscape of criminal activities. The immediate implementation of these measures reflects the urgency with which the Police Force aims to adapt and strengthen its response to contemporary security challenges.
