Nigeria: In Ibadan, a policeman is killed in a fight by “hoodlums.”
At Moniya in the Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State, a heated argument with some alleged “Yahoo boys” was said to have resulted in the death of a police officer.
The incident in the vicinity of King’s College caused panic throughout the region, prompting vehicles to turn around out of fear of being attacked.
“The alleged ‘Yahoo boys’ were in the car when the officers who were on a stop-and-search operation flagged down their car,” stated an eyewitness who did not wish to be identified. They stopped, but nobody knew what happened again between them.
They moved the car suddenly, and while they were doing so, a sudden exchange of shots that I couldn’t find hit the police. Different officials began shooting irregularly and this prompted the upheaval nearby.
“They made an endeavor to capture those folks yet individuals opposed,” she made sense of.
“Moniya boiled today (Tuesday),” said another witness. During an argument with some boys, a police officer was struck by a stray bullet and died.
However, in a statement that was signed by its spokesperson, Adewale Osifeso, the state police command said that seven people had been arrested, that 12 motorcycles had been impounded in connection with the incident, and that the body of the deceased had been deposited at the state morgue for a post-mortem.
