In a horrifying incident, a group of about 40 gunmen stormed the Kawu Community in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the early hours of Thursday, resulting in the abduction of 23 individuals, including a former Ward Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party. The community, which shares boundaries with Kaduna and Niger states, fell victim to this brazen act of violence.

According to Abdulmumini Zakari, the councillor representing the community and Deputy Speaker in the council, the gunmen arrived from the Kuyeri Forest in Kaduna State. They methodically carried out their operation, targeting prominent individuals and their families. Among the victims were the wife and son of the District Head, Alhaji Abdurrahman Danjuma Ali, and a former Ward Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party along with his four children.

The bandits also targeted the compound of Sarkin Pawan Kawu, Gambo Pawa, and abducted him, his two wives, and several children. The exact motives behind the attack remain unknown. Efforts to reach the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, have been unsuccessful as she has not responded to phone calls or texts.

This incident is a grave reminder of the security challenges faced by communities in the FCT and the urgent need for measures to ensure the safety and well-being of residents. It is crucial that the authorities conduct a thorough investigation into this incident and take decisive actions to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the abducted individuals and their families during this distressing time. The safety and security of our communities must be a top priority, and we call on the relevant authorities to address these security concerns promptly.
