In a significant development, the Ekiti State Police Command has officially presented the suspected killer of the two traditional rulers in the Ikole area of Ekiti State. Baboga Alhaji, the apprehended suspect, was paraded at the police headquarters in Ado-Ekiti. The arrest was the result of a collaborative effort between the police and other security agencies, leading to the capture of the suspect in the forest between Ayedun and Ayebode.

Addressing the media, Dare Ogundare, the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) in charge of Ekiti, provided details of the operation. He stated that a combined team comprising the police, Amotekun, and OPC conducted a secret operation into the thick forest in Ikere to flush out criminal elements responsible for the traditional rulers’ killings and the abduction of school pupils and teachers.

During the operation, five suspects were arrested, and a cache of dangerous weapons was recovered. The team extended its efforts through the Emure-ekiti Forest, leading to the apprehension of eight additional suspects. Among those arrested, Babooga Alhaji confessed to participating in the assassination of the two traditional rulers. He is now cooperating, providing credible information that could lead to the arrest of other gang leaders involved in the crimes.

Ogundare emphasized that no ransom was paid for the release of the abducted victims, asserting the Nigeria Police’s stance against encouraging ransom payments. He commended the collaborative efforts that led to the successful rescue of five abducted students and teachers. The rescue operation took place at the Otikon Forest between Emure Ekiti and Owo in Ondo State around 1 am on Sunday.

Expressing gratitude, the AIG acknowledged Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for his unwavering support in facilitating the rescue operation. The successful operations demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement and security agencies to combat criminal activities and ensure the safety of citizens in Ekiti State.

As the police parade the suspected killer and announce successful rescue operations, the focus remains on ensuring justice for the victims and holding those responsible accountable for their actions. The collaborative efforts of various security agencies underscore the importance of coordinated actions in addressing security challenges and maintaining public safety.
