Nigeria: Delta Police Apprehend 8 Kidnap Suspects, Recover Vehicle

In a recent development, the Delta State Police Command successfully apprehended eight kidnapping suspects and recovered a vehicle from them. The arrest took place between Saturday and Sunday in the Amukpe axis of Sapele, as reported by DSP Bright Edafe, the spokesperson for the command.

According to Edafe, the CP – DECOY Squad, led by ASP Julius Robinson and assisted by the Divisional Police Officer of Sapele division, conducted the sting operations that led to the arrest.

The suspects, operating with a tricycle, had abducted a female victim on November 19. The victim, driving on Shell Road, Sapele, was ambushed by the hoodlums who later collected a ransom of N2 million from her.

Acting on information received regarding the kidnapped victim, the CP – DECOY Squad, under the directive of the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Wale Abass, utilized technically generated intelligence to apprehend the perpetrators.

The gang leader was arrested on November 25, following which the team, armed with information from the leader, conducted an ambush on November 26, successfully arresting the remaining gang members who were planning another kidnapping operation.

All suspects confessed to the crime, admitting their various roles, and were positively identified by the victim. Further investigations led to the recovery of the victim’s vehicle in Oghara town, with ongoing efforts to recover the operational weapons of the syndicate.

The Delta State Police emphasized their commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of the public.
