Nigeria: Bride is kidnapped by Kwara gunmen and held for N50 million

Oniyangi, Emir Road, Ilorin, in the Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, witnessed a home invasion on Wednesday by gunmen targeting a newlywed couple.

Our correspondent learned that the kidnappers later contacted the family and demanded 50 million Nigerian naira as a ransom for the woman.

The victim’s relative, who did not wish to be identified, stated that the couple got married about three months ago.

The kidnappers have contacted the family and requested N50 million, which they stated must be paid before the weekend.

He added, “The family has no such money, so we are asking philanthropists and the general public to help us so that the kidnappers will not kill our daughter.”

According to the relative, the incident was reported to the police on Thursday at the Oja Oba Station in Ilorin.

SP Okasanmi Ajayi, the state Police Public Relations Officer, denied being aware of the kidnapping when contacted on Friday.

I’ve heard nothing about the incident; He added, “Maybe the incident was not reported to any of the nearby police stations.”
