A young lady, identified as Sughshater Ushahemba, has been apprehended by the Benue State Police Command for the alleged murder of her 11-year-old baby. The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the arrest on Monday, noting that the suspect is under investigation.

The incident occurred in Mbadyul Council Ward of Logo Local Government Area in the state, where the lady reportedly killed her baby over the weekend by feeding her a weed-killing chemical.

According to Mr. Paul Pevikyaa, the Information Officer of Logo LGA, the woman provided conflicting stories about the child’s death during interviews. Initially, she claimed the baby had a sudden high fever around 12:31 am, leading to her demise within two hours. However, she failed to inform her neighbors about the incident when morning broke.

Pevikyaa highlighted the significance of notifying neighbors in times of difficulty. Subsequently, when questioned further, the woman confessed to intentionally poisoning her child. She revealed that she had been abandoned by her boyfriend after giving birth to a baby girl, and due to the resulting hardships, she decided to end her child’s life.
